Renault launched its new Clio RS in South Africa. The car follows in the footsteps of illustrious Clio RS models and Renault believes the car continues the tradition of what makes it RS models popular among car buyers.

The latest flagship models of the Clio model range, the new Clio RS Lux and Clio RS Trophy models are introduced to the market.

Known by design

These models boast Renault’s RS exterior design with specific sports cues (front and rear bumpers, large alloy wheels, visible double exhaust pipes, rear spoiler), but , says Renault, it’s more enhanced. Other distinct and improved RS design prompts include specific RS badging below the larger Renault logo on the front and on the boot lid, new RS alloy wheels (17” on the LUX model and Gloss Black 18” on the Trophy), and a rear that’s known by a sporty spoiler and a RS diffuser with a twin exhaust tail pipe.

In the cabin the Clio RS models sports red detail around the air vents and red stitching on the gear lever, handbrake and steering wheel. Renault says the its Renault Sport bucket seats offer extra side support and heated front seats (specific to the Trophy model).

Technology and power

Over the Lux model the Trophy has been lowered by 20mm at the front and 10mm at the rear. The LUX version delivers 147kW of power and the Trophy 162kW, both mated to a six speed EDC dual-clutch automatic transmission with convenient steering wheel-mounted paddle shifts.

With its its lower chassis and 18” high performance Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, the RS Trophy has a top speed of 235km/h and can complete the 0 to 100km/h sprint in just 6.6sec. Renault says the Trophy is the only vehicle in its segment to have an Akrapovic exhaust as standard.

Renault equipped the Clio RS with three features aimed at enhancing the driving experience. These are Launch Control, RS Drive, and RS Monitor. The Launch Control system aims to give the vehicle the best possible launch off the line with limited wheel spin.

Through RS Drive, the driver can adjust the RS’s road handling behaviour by switching between the three driving modes (Normal, Sport and Race).

RS Monitor is a performance tracking system providing the driver with real-time data . It collects data through a series of sensors and drivers can scroll through the system’s different functions using the steering wheel mounted controls. Via this embedded telemetry system, a driver is able to record and replay his/her run.

Warranty and price

The new Clio RS models come standard with a five-year or 150 000km mechanical warranty, together with a six-year anti-corrosion warranty. A three-year or 30 000km service plan applies, with service intervals at 10 000km.
